The twins are two! In keeping with tradition, I’m blogging their first birthday party to celebrate (in other words, I’m just now getting around to it haha). For their first birthday, I blogged their newborn shoot.
I knew I wanted their first birthday captured professionally because the photos tell a story so much better than a few phone snapshots with a limited point of view ever could, and, as usual, Lauren Carroll Photography did not disappoint! I love looking back on these photos and remembering the day, with all of our family in town to celebrate. Of course a first birthday is really for the parents, because these guys didn’t know what was going on! First birthdays are really so emotional once you become a mom, because you see your little baby (babies) growing up, and inevitably you start to realize how fast it is really all happening.
I won’t lie, their first year was hard. Having twins isn’t easy on its own, but we had many struggles on top of it, breastfeeding, pumping, formula issues, and many medical complications for them, including ER visits, hospital stays, and tons of doctor’s visits. In comparison, their second year was much easier. Twins get easier as they get older, as they can do more things on their own, communicate better, and play together. We had a better handle on their health, they were in less pain, much happier, and there were far fewer scary moments. Given the struggles we’ve faced and still face everyday, I’ve promised myself (to try) not to be sad about birthdays and milestones. To not mourn time passing but be thankful and grateful for every day they are growing, laughing, happy, and healthy.
So this weekend we will celebrate how far we’ve come in TWO years! I’ve been teaching them for several weeks how to say how old they are and they are catching on! Each day with them gets more and more fun. I never knew how FUNNY someone so little could be. They have such a sophisticated sense of humor and are constantly laughing at each other and making me laugh. One of my goals right now is to implement more Instagram stories of the twins, because some things they do are just too good not to share! Happy Birthday Marion and Minor!
